Google Analytics – explore the extras
Regardless of whether we are advanced users of Google Analytics or just starting the adventure with this tool, it is worth to get to know the plug-ins that will be able to significantly improve the quality of our work.
- Calculated data – each of us has certainly exported data from Google Analytics to Excel in order to make simple calculations. To save the time, we can do it in the first tool. For this purpose, we enter the administration panel, and in the data view, we select the calculated data. For example, we can define profit as (revenue – transport costs) * 20%. The formula in Google Analytics would then look like this: ({{Revenue}} – {{Delivery}}) * 0.2. The new variable can be used in both custom reports as well as panels and widgets.
- Non-standard alerts – if you want to keep control of what’s happening on the website, it’s worth using Google Analytics custom alerts. This is nothing but email notification arriving in our mailbox. In order to set it, you need to log in to your account, go to the administration panel and select Custom Alerts in the view settings. The notification can be set on a daily, weekly or monthly basis. By configuring them, we have the choice of traffic categories, what alerts will be affected, as well as the metrics of which we will be informed.
- Keyboard shortcuts – it is worth using them especially when we regularly use Google Analytics and we are in favor of optimization. The available abbreviations apply mainly to navigating the panel and setting the date range.
- Da Vinci Tools plugin – this is a plugin for Chrom, thanks to it we gain the ability to create transparent, eye-friendly reports that are easy to analyze. The color palette available here shows the gradation of the values in the table.
- Google API – it is a great solution for advanced users for whom the Google Analytics panel is not enough. We can also decide to download data using the API from Google Analytics. This is extremely useful in particular when we need to import a large amount of data. With the help of Google API, we are also able to create a new project and an OAuth 2.0 account. for authorization – this way we will obtain a customer ID and a secret key with the help of which we will be able to connect to the Google Analytics account.
